Alvin Vaughn Hewitt, loving husband, father and grandfather, 75, passed from this life and entered into his eternal home in heaven on April 13, 2026, at Kiowa County Memorial Hospital, Greensburg, Kansas. The first baby to be born at Kiowa County Memorial Hospital on July 8, 1950. He was the son of Vincent V. and Betty Jean (Eden) Hewitt. Alvin graduated from Greensburg High School in 1969 and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a maintenance mechanic for Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Company, in Greensburg, retiring after 42 years. He worked hard to provide for his family and if you knew him well, you know he wasn’t one to sit still or let anyone else outwork him. He had lived in Goodland, Kansas, Greensburg, and Hutchinson, Kansas. He lived out the last days of his life in Greensburg, where he was able to see grandkids almost daily, enjoyed morning and afternoon coffee with dear friends, and appreciated familiar faces. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, now the Cornerstone Fellowship, Greensburg, and the Southern Baptist Church, Hutchinson. Before his diagnosis of Alzheimer’s, Alvin was always very active serving in various areas for the church. On April 22, 1978, Alvin married the love of his life, Debbie Mucklow in Russell, Kansas. She survives. They would have been celebrating 48 years of marriage next Wednesday the 22. Alvin honored the Lord with his voice, singing solos, duets, trios, and even participated in a quartet called 4 Praise. He was also often seen playing the guitar, piano and the harmonica. He taught himself how to play the guitar during his time in the service, in Vietnam. He had many memories playing with his own father who was an avid guitar collector and player. He wrote many songs but our family will forever cherish the song, There Is A Power, that he wrote after the September, 11 tragedy. Over the years, he has blessed many with his voice and instrumental talents that God gifted him with. Other survivors include three sons, Steve Hewitt (Kim), Wichita, Kansas, Daniel Hewitt (Maricela) Goddard, Kansas, Dustin Hewitt (Hope), Medicine Lodge, Kansas, two daughters. Misti Ravenstien (Ryan), Sterling, Kansas, Adriell Elwood (Wade) Greensburg, sixteen grandchildren, Gunner Hewitt, Kayleigh Hewitt, Blake Hewitt, Jude Reed, Ashton Hewitt, Winter Hewitt, Brady Ravenstien, Aleya Ravenstien, Gracie Ravenstien, Camryn Hewitt, Landon Hewitt, Maddyn Hewitt, Whitley Elwood, Pryor Elwood, Hudsyn Elwood and Tru Elwood. He will always be remembered for his unwavering faith and love for Jesus. And he would want all of those who grieve his absence to know that by the sacrificial death of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, his mind and body has been restored and he is finally home. For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. Philippians 1:21
