Greensburg -Barbara Jean Fleener, 88, died January 14, 2018 at the Hill Top House, Bucklin, Kansas. She was born June 24, 1929 in Vine Creek, Kansas, the daughter of Noah Washington and Lula Milbra (Mabry) Cotton. She graduated from Ada High School, Ada Kansas. Barbara earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Kansas State University and a Master’s Degree from Oklahoma University. She was a school teacher, and co-owner of Fleener’s Inc., where she was involved in home furnishing sales and installation and was a licensed funeral director.
Her memberships include the First United Methodist Church, Greensburg, FYI Social Club, P.E.O. Chapter AH, and the Kansas Funeral Directors Association. She served on the board of the Kiowa County Library, and led a Bible study class for over 35 years.
On September 4, 1954, Barbara married John Eldon Fleener in Canton, Kansas. He preceded her in death September 6, 2012. She is survived by two sons J. Wynn Fleener and Wylan Lewis Fleener and wife Mia, all of Greensburg, 11 grandchildren Shanna Fleener, Tori Quinby and husband Shawn, Taylor Fleener, Jaden Fleener, Tayla Fleener, Alexsis Fleener, Chloe Enfield, Harrison Fleener, Teigan Ellegood, William Enfield, and Nathaniel Enfield, and 4 great-grandchildren Charlee Ray, Frankee Ray, Kennedy Quinby and Matthew Fleener, three brother-in-law’s Paul Fleener and wife Shirley, Manhattan, Kansas, Richard Spare, Hutchinson, Kansas and Marion Hammarlund, Riverside, California, and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by two sisters Ruth Lancaster and Margaret Hammarlund.
Funeral services and celebration of Barbara’s life will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 20, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church, Greensburg with Pastor Terry Mayhew presiding. A visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday at Fleener Funeral Home, Greensburg.
