Betty was born April 6, 1945, in Pratt, Kansas to Carl Alvin Rose and Dorothy Darlene (Kern) Rose. Betty was raised in several states while her father Carl traveled the mid-west building grain elevators. She settled in Larned, Kansas in 1961, where she attended Larned High School. After graduation she attended Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina, Kansas where she received her bachelor’s degree. She started her career working in Salina for the State of Kansas in social services. She moved to Wichita and was married to Jack Shelton on July 1, 1970. They made their home in Wichita, Mound City and Topeka where Betty worked for most of her career with Kansas Social and Rehabilitation Services. Betty worked hard to put Jack through law school. Betty and Jack divorced on November 14, 1980. Betty continued to work in Topeka until her retirement in 2003, when she bought a home and moved to Larned to be closer to family. Betty enjoyed playing tennis, reading a variety of books and many bibles, playing her piano and spending time with her house cats. Her pride and joy was her beautiful flower gardens and immaculate lawn. She worked hard planting her many flower beds, hand weeding and mowing with a push lawn mower. Betty was a very private person. She was preceded in death by her father, Carl Alvin Rose in 2011, her mother Dorothy Darlene Rose in 2013, her brother William Lloyd Rose in 2022, sister-in-law Gaynell Ann Rose in 2025, great nephew William Howard Thompson in 2025 and sister Carolyn Diane Ring in early 2026.
