Greensburg-Billie D. Sutton was born December 24, 1925 in Mullinville, Kansas to Pete and Nettie Sutton and he passed away at age eight-nine on September 19, 2015. Bill graduated from Greensburg High School in 1943, where he had loved playing football and started dating his future wife, Hollis Hodges. Bill and Hollis were married May 11, 1945 in Jacksonville, Florida, where he was stationed in the United States Navy. After being stationed in Chicago, Bill and Hollis returned to Greensburg where he worked for Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Company until his retirement. Their family included three children: Rod, Rick and Barbara. Bill enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, playing golf and following the activities of his children and grandchildren. He was a member of the Greensburg Lions Club, Pitch Club and the Greensburg Methodist Church where he served as an usher for many years and attended an early morning bible study group. Bill served on the Board of Directors of Komatara, the Board of Directors of South Wind Hospice and the Cannonball Golf Course Association. Bill’s wife Hollis died in May of 1995, shortly after they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Also preceding him in death was his oldest son, Rod Sutton. On March 28, 1998, Bill married Sharon Koehn in Greensburg, where they continued to live until it was destroyed by a tornado in 2007. They lived in Hutchinson, Kansas for three years before returning to Greensburg in 2010. Bill is survived by his wife, Sharon, son Rick (Cindy) of McPherson, daughter Barbara (Larry) Ballard of Hutchinson and daughter-in-law Marilyn (Dan) Ropp of Hutchinson. He is survived by eight grandchildren: Mike, Jon (Cheryl), Derick (Jennifer), David (Erin) and Kara Sutton; Karren (Jon) Skelton, Brett (Kelly) Ballard and Katie (Dain) Hammerschmidt. Bill is survived by great grandchildren: Evan, Haley and Sophia Skelton; Danyka, Kinley, Zailey and Harper Sutton; Kaden, Brooks and Breagan Ballard; Kale, Bailey and Shay Hammerschmidt. Bill is also survived by stepchildren Ken (Karen) Koehn, Kassie (Loren) Zimmerman, five step-grandchildren and special friends, Ron and Roberta Seiler. Visitation with family, 5:00-7:00 pm, Wednesday, September 23, 2015, at Fleener Funeral Home, 514 S. Main St, Greensburg, Kansas. Funeral services will be 11:00 am, Thursday, September 24, 2015 at the Greensburg Mennonite Church, 310 W. Pennsylvania, Greensburg, with Jeffery D. Blackburn officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Greensburg. Memorials are suggested to the Kiowa County Memorial Hospital and the Greensburg Mennonite Church, in care of Fleener Funeral Home.
