Greensburg- Dorothy Elizabeth Pew, 90, died February 23, 2014 at South Wind Hospice House, Pratt Kansas. She was born April 28, 1923 in Langdon, Kansas, the daughter of Chester Lawrence and Bertha Marie (Lightner) Pew. She had lived in Sterling, Hutchinson, Garden City and Greensburg. Elizabeth was a high school business skills teacher. She earned a B.S. from Kansas State Teachers College at Emporia in 1946 and a Masters Degree from the University of Southern California in 1957 after attending four summers. She taught in Garden City, Kansas in 1946-1948, and at Greensburg High School for 38 years retiring in 1989. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Star of Hope chapter #193, and the First United Methodist Church, Greensburg, the NEA and KNEA. Elizabeth is survived by a daughter (a niece she adopted) Vicki Williams, three nephews Doug, Don and Ron Pew, and a niece Margaret Allison. She was preceded in death by three brothers Donald J., Harold G., and Paul L. Pew and two sisters Edith Irene Williams and Margaret Pew. Funeral services and celebration of Ms. Pew’s life will be held 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church, Greensburg with Pastor Terry Mayhew officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Greensburg. A visitation will be held 5:00-7:00p.m. Tuesday at Fleener Funeral Home, Greensburg. Memorials are suggested to the Salvation Army, the Pratt Area Humane Society, and the Cannonball Chapter of the Red Cross, all in care of Fleener Funeral Home, 514 S. Main St., Greensburg, Kansas, 67054.
