Hillsboro / Greensburg-Josephine Stella “Ione” Morford, 99, died June 6, 2014 at Parkside Homes in Hillsboro, Kansas.
She was born December 19, 1914 to Joseph Allen and Della Criqui Morford near Greensburg. She grew up on the farm with her brothers Elton “Slim”, and Floyd “Sherman” Morford. Ione graduated from Greensburg High School in 1932. She received her education degree from Fort Hays State University and a masters degree in library science from Emporia State University.
Ione was an educator in rural schools in Kiowa and Stafford counties, Mullinville Grade School, Pratt Liberty Junior High School and Pratt High School. After retiring in 1980 she returned to her hometown of Greensburg. In 2007 her home and much of the community was destroyed by a tornado. She then became a resident at Parkside Homes in Hillsboro, Kansas.
Ione was preceded in death by her parents and brothers. She is survived by her niece, Sharman Thornton, Congress, Arizona, and two nephews Quentin Morford, Hillsboro, and Craig Morford, Haviland, Kansas.
Memorial service and a reception will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 14, in the Greensburg Christian Church, Greensburg. Inurnment will follow at 3:30 p.m. in Fairview Cemetery, Greensburg.
