Irene Ballard

Haviland- Irene Ballard, 93, died March 7, 2019 at Home Again Senior Living, Haviland, Kansas. She was born March 2, 1926 in rural Kiowa County, southwest of Haviland, to John Louis and Bulah Mae (Kimberly) Carson. A lifetime resident of the Haviland community, Irene graduated from Haviland High School and retired as the U.S. Postal clerk after 40 years of service. She was a member of the YWCA, Farmerettes Ladies Club, and was a leader of Cub Scouts and 4H. On November 17, 1946 Irene married Lloyd Ballard in Haviland. He survives. Other survivors include four sons Larry and wife Barbara Ballard, Chris and wife Liz Ballard, Neal Ballard, Karl and wife Linda Ballard, one daughter Janet Ballard, a sister Vicki Burke and husband Dennis, eight Grandchildren, Matt and wife Kami Ballard, Marshall and wife Traci Ballard, Morgan and wife Laura Ballard, Mallorie and husband Michael Scott, Brett and wife Kelly Ballard, Katie and husband Dain Hammerschmidt, Cole and wife Rebecca Ballard, Carson and husband Chris Robinson, and twenty-three Great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two infant brothers, two sisters Joyce Clark and Twyla Cochran. Funeral services and celebration of Irene’s life will be held 10:30 am Monday, March 11, 2019 at the Haviland United Methodist Church with Pastor Mark Fillmore and Marshall Ballard officiating. Burial will follow in Haviland Cemetery, Haviland, Kansas. Memorials are suggested to the Haviland United Methodist Church in care of Fleener Funeral Home, PO Box 41, Greensburg, Kansas 67054.
