Jan Case

January 13, 1957 — December 9, 2025

Greensburg

Jan Ellyn Lorimor Case passed from this life into eternal life with her Lord and Savior on December 9, 2025, in Rich Hill, Missouri. She was surrounded by family and entered her heavenly home as Psalm 23 was read.

Jan was born on January 13, 1957, in Phillipsburg, Kansas, to Ernie Clifford and Lyndell Elsie (Thompson) Lorimor. She was the eighth of nine children and grew up in a home full of love, faith, and strong family bonds.

A 1975 graduate of Phillipsburg High School, Jan went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in Special Education from Fort Hays State University in 1979. She earned her master’s degree in Special Education in 1989. She taught K–12 Special Education for 33 years, retiring from Kiowa County High School in 2014. Jan was deeply devoted to her students. She worked tirelessly to ensure every child received the education, accommodations, and advocacy they needed. Many students found in her not only a teacher, but a second mother. She was nominated for Kansas Teacher of the Year in 2000—an honor her family believes she embodied every day.

Jan’s passion for special education was shaped in part by her love for her older brother, Lance, who had cerebral palsy and was nonverbal. Her compassion for him grew into a lifetime calling to support students of all abilities. Even after retirement, Jan remained her children’s first call for educational questions, special education guidance, and ideas for activities for her grandchildren.

Jan married the love of her life, Michael James Case, on May 28, 1978. They began their life together in Larned, Kansas, before making their home in Greensburg, Kansas, where they lived together until Michael’s passing in July 2018. Their partnership was one of steady devotion, mutual respect, and quiet strength. Together they built a home in 2005 and enjoyed traveling, including a cruise to Alaska and a memorable trip to Sweden to visit their beloved exchange daughter, Linnea. Their marriage was a beautiful example of love that shaped how Bethany and Barrett learned to love their own spouses.

Jan had many joys in life. She loved reading, playing piano, and singing. She enjoyed cross stitching, needlepoint, and many other crafts. A crossword puzzle rarely sat empty for long. She passed her love of reading to her children, reading aloud to Bethany and Barrett long after they could read on their own—Old Yeller, Where the Red Fern Grows, and The Indian in the Cupboard series were family favorites. She continued this tradition with her grandchildren, delighting in every moment spent sharing stories with them.

Faith shaped every part of Jan’s life. She served the Lord faithfully in many roles over the years: youth leader, VBS director, music director, Sunday school teacher, and active member of various committees, including Pastor Search Committees and Boards of Trustees.

In March 2024, Jan moved to Satanta, Kansas, and made her home at Legacy Suites, an independent living facility. She quickly became part of the community and joined First Baptist Church of Satanta, where her beautiful singing voice was warmly welcomed. She attended services and Bible studies as her health allowed and embraced her new community with joy. Jan also became an avid bingo player, faithfully playing at 3:30 p.m. six days a week.

Above all, Jan adored her nine grandchildren—each one cherished, each one deeply loved. She treasured conversations with them, attended their activities whenever possible, and taught them games like Racko and Dutch Blitz. Being a grandmother was one of her greatest joys, and she was an extraordinary one.

Jan loved her friends fiercely, offering loyalty, wisdom, and kindness to all blessed to know her. She filled many roles in life—wife, mother, grandmother, educator, friend, sister, aunt, cousin—but in every role, she embodied love. If you knew Jan, you knew she loved the Lord, and you knew she loved you.

Jan was preceded in death by her husband, Michael; her parents, Ernie and Lyndell Lorimor; her brothers Bruce, Lyle, Lance, and Joe; her sister Carol; her mother-in-law, Arlene Hoover; and brothers-in-law Jon, Gary, and Doug.

She is survived by her sister Sandye (Max) Jarvis; brothers Scott (Shelia) Lorimor and Lee Lorimor; sister-in-law, Margarita Case; her children, Bethany (Micah) Wood of Satanta, Kansas, and Barrett (Meghann) Case of Rich Hill, Missouri; her beloved grandchildren Magal, Diamond, Jasmine, Elly, Miracle, Hannah, Patience, Silas, and Makai; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Visitation will be Friday, December 12, from 5:00–7:00 p.m. at Cornerstone Fellowship Church, 200 W. Kansas, Greensburg, KS. Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 13, at 10:00 a.m. at Cornerstone Fellowship Church, followed by a graveside burial at Fairview Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to Satanta PTO, P.O. Box 129, Satanta, KS 67870, in support of the School Supply Fundraiser, and to the Hospice Support Foundation, 811 Westchester Ave., Harrisonville, MO 65701, or in care of Fleener Funeral Home, PO Box 41, Greensburg, KS 67054.
