Haviland- Joan Philpott passed away on July 4, 2022 in Pratt, Kansas. Joan McMaken was born in Haviland, Kansas on November 15, 1933 the only child of Henry “Hank” and Maude McMaken. She attended school in Haviland, graduating in 1951. Joan married Victor Philpott on January 31, 1953. There were four children born of this union. Keith (Ronda Ross) Philpott of Olathe, Kansas; Debbie Philpott of Sunrise Beach, Missouri; Stephanie (Robert) Johnson of Wilsonville, Oregon. A son Christopher Philpott preceded them in death on April 23, 2001. Joan and Vic have three grandchildren: Brock (Nina Waters) Johnson of Silverthorne, Colorado. Brooke Johnson of Sherwood, Oregon and Brittani (Jason) Hodges of Wilsonville, Oregon. There are four great-grandchildren: Braedyn, Ellie and Audrey Arthur of Sherwood, Oregon and Ryder Hodges of Wilsonville, Oregon. Joan spent her career as the Haviland High School secretary where she enjoyed meeting the kids and entertaining her family with stories of student escapades. Joan was active in the Haviland United Methodist Church where she played the piano and sang in the choir. Joan enjoyed coffee time with her friends and being part of the Jr. SOS Social Club. A Celebration of Life service for family and friends will be held on September 10, 2022 at 10:30 am at the Haviland United Methodist Church. Friends are invited to meet with the family immediately following the service in the Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in care of Fleener Funeral Home,PO Box 41, Greensburg, Kansas 67054.
