John Patrick “Pat” Greenleaf

Greensburg- John Patrick “Pat” Greenleaf, 70, died March 7, 2023 at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, Kansas. He was born March 7, 1953 in Pratt, Kansas, the son of James O. and Ruth (Huffman) Greenleaf. Known for his patience, humility, and hard work, Pat developed this character alongside his dad and brother on a ranch in Kiowa County. Pat had a God-given ability to work with horses and cattle and grew up loving the land of Kansas. Following High School in 1971, Pat enjoyed time in Manhattan getting his bachelor’s degree at Kansas State University and was a proud member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity. On November 5, 1977, Pat married Donna Boyle who was his life partner in serving people, and with whom he enjoyed traveling and cherishing the role of “Grampie” in his last decade of life. Pat and Donna raised their twin boys, Justin and Jared, on the ranch during the early years of their marriage and parenting. Pat later returned to school and became a registered nurse (RN). While continuing to take care of cattle in various capacities, Pat also worked as an RN at Kiowa County Memorial Hospital and Pratt Regional Medical Center until the week before his death. A nearly lifetime Greensburg resident, Pat invested in Kiowa county as a rancher, nurse, member of the First United Methodist Church, and conservation district board member. In his quiet and dependable way, Pat deeply loved and cared for the people, land, and animals God allowed him to steward while on earth. Survivors include his wife Donna, two sons Justin (wife Pam) Greenleaf of Hays, Kansas and Jared (wife Amanda) of Kansas City, Kansas, four grandchildren Alexander, Elena, Andrew, and Anthony Greenleaf of Hays, a sister-in-law Sue Greenleaf of Greensburg, two nephews and a niece and their families, and many friends whom he considered as family. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Jim Greenleaf. A graveside service honoring Pat’s life will be held in Fairview Cemetery, Greensburg on Saturday, March 11, 2023, at 2pm with Pastor Dave Mealiff presiding.
