Mary Ellen Schmidt

Mary Ellen Schmidt, 86, passed away Sunday, November 26^th, 2023, at Bridge Haven in Lawrence, Kansas.  She was born on April 3, 1937, in Lecoma, Missouri to Gilbert “Gibb” and Gladys Headrick, the middle child of ten. 

The Headrick family moved to Mullinville, Kansas where Mary grew up, graduated from Mullinville High School and earned a two-year degree at Pratt Community College.  Mary was married to Ernest (Ernie) Schmidt on July 1^st, 1956.  He proceeded her in death on October 7^th, 2000. 

Mary became a Christian at an early age. Church and church work were an important part of her entire life.  Serving as a Youth Director or a Director of Christian Education in Medicine Lodge, Emporia, Lawrence and Chanute. Wherever Ernie’s work took them throughout his career, Mary found a church home to work with and serve in. God was the center of her life, Mary knowing who held her in the palm of His hand.

She is survived by her son, Gregory Lee (Carol Ann) and daughter, Shelley Rae (Rick), brothers, Bill, Phillip (Rusty) and Ted.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ernest, and brother, Gilbert (Junior), sister, Fern Gilliam, sister, Mildred Rarden, brother, Jim, brother, Joe and sister Wanda (infant).

An 11:00 am grave-side service will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at Fairview Cemetery, Greensburg, Kansas.
