Philip Newlin Rush

Haviland – Philip Newlin Rush, 90, died August 6, 2026, at Home Again Senior Living, Haviland, Kansas. He was born April 20, 1936, in rural Kiowa County, Kansas, the son of Paris Newlin and Dorothy Mae (Woodward) Rush. A lifetime Haviland resident, Philip graduated from Haviland High School in 1954, and Kansas State University in 1958 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agronomy. He was a farmer. While at college he served in the U.S. Army R.O.T.C.. He was a member of the Haviland Friends Church, and served on the Farmers Co-op Board, the Ninnescah Rural Electric Board and the Friends Bible College Board. On December 29, 1959, Philip married Janice Ulrich in Eureka, Illinois. She survives. Other survivors include two sons Paul Rush (Vicki), Haviland, Jeffery Rush(Beth), Plano, Texas, four grandchildren, Clint Saloga (Sora Kang), Parker, Colorado, Joe Rush (Kathleen), Shawnee, Kansas, Bailey Coulter (David), Parkville, Missouri, Loren Rush (Danielle), Capitan, New Mexico, five great-grandchildren Eleanor, Lucille, Charlotte, August, and Penelope Rush, one brother Keith Rush (Sally), Gaithersburg, Maryland, a sister-in-law Jeanettia Rush, Rome, Georgia. He was preceded in death by a brother C. Wayne Rush and a grandson Teddy Rush. Funeral services and celebration of life will be held 10:30 am, Wednesday August 12, 2026, at the Haviland, Friends Church with Pastor Todd Follette officiating. Burial will follow in the Haviland Cemetery, Haviland. A visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 pm Tuesday, August 11 at the church. Memorials are suggested to Barclay College, and Haviland Friends Church, both in care of Fleener Funeral Home, PO Box 41, Greensburg, KS 67054-0041.
