William Gregory "Bill" McMurry

Greensburg- William Gregory (Bill) McMurry passed away March 17, 2023, at Brookdale Memory Care, Richland Hills Texas. He was born January 22, 1931, in Greensburg, Kansas to William Lynn and Rhuy K. (Williams) McMurry.

He grew up on the family farm in Kiowa County and graduated from Greensburg High School in 1949.

After High School he attended diesel mechanic school in St. Louis, Missouri. In 1951, he enlisted in the US Navy and served his country for four years. Bill married JoAn Ward in 1955 and they moved to the farm and began raising crops and livestock. In 1958 he became a dealer for Moorman’s Feed, a career he continued for 37 years. In 1983 he married Elaine Ballard; they lived on the farm till 1999 when they moved to Greensburg. Bill continued to feed cattle and work on the farm. They enjoyed going south for the winter and after the 2007 tornado a permanent move to Rockport Texas was made. In 2020 they moved to North Richland Hills Texas.

Bill was a Mason and member of the First United Methodist Church, Greensburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Donald McMurry and Dale McMurry; sisters, Ruth Freeman, Rosa Lee Freeman and Harriet George; son-in-law Pat Greenleaf.

He is survived by his wife Elaine McMurry, North Richland Hills, Texas; children, Debbie (Steve) Goering, Greg (Cindy) McMurry, D.J. (Kim) McMurry, Greensburg, Kansas, Monica (Gary) Fincher, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, and Donna Greenleaf, Pratt, Kansas. 14 Grandchildren, 27 Great Grandchildren, 2 stepchildren and 1 step grandson.

A Memorial service with military honors will be held, 11:00am, April 1, 2023, in Fairview Cemetery, Greensburg.
